stuff n things

Today has been a good day! First, bike is sold. Had to sell pretty cheap, but it’s gone and I have money. The guy is also coming back to buy the helmet. Second, last day landscaping! Which is pretty sweet. New job time is fun… Hope I hear back from the editing job… AND THIRDLY! I placed a bid on ebay for a new camera! Canon HV20. Couple years old, but because of this very cheap! $200, its successor which came out last year is still going for $700 used, and has very few upgrades. The big draw to this camera is almost full manual function (within reason for a consumer camera, basically the big ones, focus, white balance, aperture, that sorta stuff) and HD. The camera I bought was a huge waste of money, unfortunately, but I learned a little from it, I guess? Not really. I also paid too much. Hopefully I can sell it… Might be tough. So things are good! Really hope I get that camera…. :)

Where’s the kaboom?

It’s raining, but I hear no thunder. I would like a thunderstorm please, Thor. It’s like the opposite of that prodigy song… Anyway. Shit’s gettin REAL. Rainy day = mad studying = skillz. I’m studying After  Effects a ton, and learning a similar amount and it is AWESOME. I’ve covered a whole basic training from an AWESOME site with a great deal of free tutorials. I highly recommend it if you have any interest in learning about rad post production. I haven’t made anything since the little Impostor video, but I will soon! I’m just really enjoying these tutorials, and the great over view of a program I’m sure I’ll become very close friends with in the not-too-distant future. I almost want to go to school for it, but I think I’ll be better off teaching myself… Since I seem to have a pretty bad work ethic when I’m in thems learnin’ institushunz.

I contemplated posting a “read my blog!” fb status, but I think I’m gonna let people see it for themselves when they decide they’re interested in what I’m doing… So if you’re reading this post, you’re cool! I would like to reward you. If there is a short video / effect you would like to see done, please reply to this! Let me know what you want to see and I’ll give it a shot. I have a lot of ideas myself, but it would be cool to get some outside plans, and I’m sure you’d love to see me make things for you! Right? Cause I’m amazing, and you would be honoured. Maybe. Actually, they’ll probably suck. Either way, do it!

Ok. Back to the learneration.

a legit post

This will count as my first legitimate blog post. Here’s what’s up. I’ve quit my summer job, and I’m devoting my time between now and fame to creating visual media. Specifically film. My started set up is an old G4 with Final Cut Express, a super shitty old Sony handi-cam, and sparkly shiny hopes and dreams. I’ll post my first video once Vimeo stops messing with me… Though I warn you, it’s not very good. Over the next few months my major goals are:

  • To become a proficient editor, specifically in Final Cut, but other as well if the opportunity should arise
  • Expand my resources. What I’m working with now is to filmmaking what holding two small leaves and flapping your arms around is to a fighter jet
  • Make a ton of sweet videos
  • Enjoy every second of it

Doesn’t sound so tough.

Creative people don’t behave very well generally.

In the beginning

There was nothing. And from the nothingness, Nick created… Whatever he wanted. However, there were and are technical limitations. Slowly these limitations shall be overcome. To infinity? Not likely. But we’re off to a good start. I now have a camera (a terrible, terrible camera), and editing software. The rest is just a matter of creation… Just.
